Just a week after announcing a new sponsorship agreement to become the Wellington Stadium’s naming sponsor, Sky Sport has announced it will be backing another of the city’s icons - the Wellington Phoenix.

As broadcaster and New Zealand producer of the Hyundai A-League, Sky Sport is already closely associated with the Phoenix, who are New Zealand’s only professional football club. The new relationship will see the two work more closely than ever before, and give fans an even greater insight into the Phoenix.

Sky chief executive Martin Stewart says: “We’re proud to step up our partnership with the Phoenix for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season. Sky has had a long term relationship with the team and it’s great to be deepening our support with this sponsorship. Our goal is to deliver excellent sport experiences to New Zealanders, and we’re looking forward to working with the Phoenix over the coming months to make the fan viewing experience even better, both on Sky Sport and at the soon to be renamed Sky Stadium.”

“Sky is committed to supporting and enhancing local sports teams, and our sponsorship of the Phoenix follows our support for the Warriors women, the Kiwis, the Kiwi Ferns, the Junior Kiwis and the Sky Sport Breakers.”

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the partnership was an important extension of the existing relationship between club and broadcaster.

‘’The new chief executive and his team have been a breath of fresh air to deal with and we are truly excited about building a partnership with the new Sky.

‘’We want to give fans even greater access to the club and are working with Sky on how we do this – not only on game day where we will be introducing some new initiatives – but in and around the club.

‘’Sky gives us important reach into the wider New Zealand sports community and of course are a huge contributor to sports in New Zealand.”

The Wellington Phoenix will begin its Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season against newcomers Western United FC, from Sunday 13th October. Fans can catch every Wellington Phoenix match broadcast LIVE on Sky Sport.
